Todd and I had the privilege of hosting our dear friend and author, DL Mitchell a little while back! We celebrated some really good news for and with her!

Deborah, an award-winning cozy mystery author, penned the books in the A Coral Shores Veterinary Mystery Series. So far it’s a three part series including “Trust the Terrier”, “Parrot Prose“, and “Marina Mews,” but stay tuned for more! When she is not writing, Deb is also a busy veterinarian, wife, and amazing mother. In our house, she’s affectionately known as Deb, Doctor Deborah, and Auntie Deb!

After Todd and I were set up on a blind date by our mutual friend, Shari Sturner Drucker (thanks Shari💗), Deb was one of the first of Todd’s tight group of friends that I met, we became fast friends.

Despite both of us moving away from south Florida to different places, (Deb to the DC area and then landing in the charming town of Milton, GA, and I moved to the historic town of Franklin (right outside of Nashville), we’ve remained connected ever since. It has been a thrill to watch, first hand, her creative process unveil itself! Deb absorbs life and stores everything in order pull stories from that later. She has a knack for vividly describing the scenes she is setting for the reader, so that they can feel like they are there as well.

I vividly recall the first draft of her very first book,” Untied Lines.” Coincidentally, that first draft didn’t turn out to be her first published book. Once she started writing, she organically turned to writing cozies (cozy mysteries!). The content and story lines that you find in cozy mysteries simply flowed effortlessly, and her first’s, were so well-received! We were so excited for her, and at the same time wondered, what about that amazing first book?

I’m beyond thrilled that the book she originally wrote—her baby- the book she honed her craft on—is out! We sheared a delicious night of truffle fries, oysters, cocktails and sunsets to do so at the bar at Bourbon Steak in downtown Nashville! If you haven’t been there for a sunset you need to do it…it’s alot more casual atmosphere in the bar area with the same sophisticated palate as the restaurant.
