Mason Jars – Cutting Board – Cutting Knife – Lemongrass Oil – Tealight Candle
We love to sit on your porch to read, sip, watch the sunset, listen to music and or listen/watch the birds, hang out with friends, maybe serve dinner outside….whatever your pleasure…..you are going to love this new tradition. This works for deterring insects from interfering with your porch time…. a natural repellant to make your porch time so much more pleasurable.
Trust me, this is so easy AND it’s fun like making a craft and tapping into your creative side, while at the same time providing for an organic way to have less insects and it’s aesthetically pleasing.
You will not be sorry you did this for any reason.
It’s inexpensive and you may already have many of the ingredients on hand.
I usually have a couple of lemons and or limes in the fruit bowl for cooking or making juice or drinks. We keep rosemary planted all year long and it is surprisingly hardy throughout the middle Tennessee temps. You can basically use any glass container you have on hand. I used these mason jars but you can use a glass vase, old candle holder whatever you can get your hands on easily, or pleases your eye the best! It’s your porch, have it look however you want! But in a pinch when chasing the mosquito’s away are more important then aesthetics then grab a glass of any kind!
If you don’t have rosemary planted then just buy a few sprigs next time you are in the produce department. Sometimes they sell the rosemary in little potted plants, grab one of those and throw it in an old pot you have on hand or just in your landscaping somewhere.
I chose rosemary for this project, but you can also add other herbs with it that are known to repel as well. We have thrown in mint, thyme and sage but rosemary is effective on it’s own.
You may need to order some tea light candles if you don’t have any on hand and some lemongrass oil.
Lemons and or Limes ( I used one of each for this project)
Mason Jar or Glass Container (I used 32 oz canning jar for this)
2-3 Sprigs Rosemary
